Tarn
Robust with French character
Tarn is a durable and extremely strong natural stone in abrasion resistance class 5, with low porosity under 0.5% and high frost resistance of 240 cycles. These properties make this material particularly suitable for paving projects and intensively used areas with a lot of coming and going, such as public spaces.
This French Tarn consists of alkaline and plagioclase feldspars, grey quartz and black biotite. These are what give this natural stone its variations in granularity and colour.
Types of granite
Tarn Fin Grain
White to grey granite that is speckled and homogeneous, with a medium grain. It is composed of white feldspars, transparent grey quartz and black biotite. Sometimes concentrations of black minerals (biotite) can be seen due to the geological formation.
Tarn Gros Grain
White to grey granite that is mottled and homogeneous, with a coarse grain. It is composed of white feldspars, transparent grey quartz and black biotite. Sometimes concentrations of black minerals (biotite) can be seen due to the geological formation.
Tarn Royal
Dark grey granite with a medium to large grain and with big, clearer minerals scattered throughout.
Our Tarn quarries
In the Sidobre region of southern France, Granitarn, a Brachot Family Member, extracts the local Tarn from its own quarries. These include Tarn Royal, Tarn Fin Grain and Tarn Gros Grain. These types of Tarn derive their hardness and strength from the composition of the Sidobre Massif, from where we extract high quality blocks.
In Burlats, Granitarn controls the entire supply chain, from quarry, via production, to distribution.

Hardwearing Finishes
Our modern machine park allows for a variety of different finishing styles for the different types of Tarn. Standard finishings such as flamed, bush-hammered and arenado have anti-slip properties, a rough appearance and a robust feel due to the surface treatment.
If you prefer the raw purity of the block, choose the "saw-cut" finishing. In addition, we offer customised finishing, developed in-house for each project.
Our Products
Our state-of-the-art machinery enables us to cut both thick and thin slabs. This opens up a wide range of possibilities: slabs, cobbles, outdoor tiles, edgings, kerbstones, tactile paving for the visually impaired, street furniture, etc.
